Hanham Hall Book Club is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7.30pm. It is held in the Community Room or via Zoom. Up to around 14 people are ‘members’, but usually anything from 4 – 10 of us come to the meetings. Sometime there is wine involved!
We support the local library by borrowing books from there, one or other of us ordering and collecting the books each month. The library make a small charge which is covered by a grant from HHRG funds.
We decide together what we’d like to read, so everyone gets a chance to choose, and we try to mix up the genres of the books, occasionally stretching out of our comfort zones. The result is that we’ve read a diverse selection of books, including The Snow Child, The Secret Life of Bees, Room, North and South, The Power, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, Past Mortem, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (the book of the Blade Runner film), The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, and many more.
We’ve also enjoyed an outing to the local cinema together (to see Book Club of course), and have made new friends and caught up with news. It isn’t all book talk.
New faces are always welcome! Contact us via Hanham Hall Book Club Facebook group.
