HHRG update

There was a meeting of the Hanham Hall Residents Group (HHRG) on 18th March where a group of residents talked about what events and activities could be held within our community. There are already a few things on offer, with some more ideas to come.

The Air Ambulance is offering a short course later in the sprint on how to use our defibrillator and perform CPR. Details will be on our Residents Facebook group or contact the group email.

This Sunday (21st) there is an opportunity to meet neighbours and tend to our wonderful green spaces. This is one of the regular environment group sessions where residents help tend the 6 acres of wildflower meadow around our site. They also organise the monitoring of the wildlife.

The next Quiz Night is on 26th April in Ivy’s Cafe – get a team of up to 4 people together and pit your wits against your neighbours. The Book Group is still running and has its own Facebook group if you are interested in joining.

There are a few other ideas in the pipeline so keep an eye out for more details on

  • Social dog walking
  • Community Cycling Group (awaiting the retraining of the leader)
  • Art Classes (expected later this year)

Details will be posted on this site, or our Facebook page or via the new WhatsApp group or ask via the group email.

If you have ideas for other activities, do come along to the next HHRG meeting on May 20th, 7pm in Ivy’s Cafe

Tree planting on Formal Lawn

We’ve some more trees to plant on the Formal Lawn. They’ll be out next to the benches to provide some shade when they are mature.

They suggested times are either Wednesday 13th March at 11am, or Thursday 14th March at 9am. Meet on the Formal Lawn.

If you can help please contact Peter or the HHRG email. Though I’m sure there will be no objections to just turning up and helping on the day and seeing who is around.

The life in our meadows

Some of you may be aware that students from UWE have been conducting projects in our meadows over the summer. They are now writing these up and have agreed to present their findings to us on September 28th at 7.00pm in Ivy’s Cafe.

All are welcome to attend and if you can inform Peter direct or via the group email then we can cater for you. Sandwiches, cakes, tea or coffee will be available as part of the evening.

The evening will comprise a short talk from Peter on how we manage the meadows then talks from each of the three students on how the management has affected the flowers, beetles and pollinators.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Coronation Picnic

There will be an informal picnic on Sunday 7th May, 2pm on the formal lawn for anyone who wants to come along.

Bring your own picnic, drinks, chairs or blanket. And let’s hope for good weather!

Hanham Hall Residents’ Group

At the AGM of the Hanham Hall Residents’ Group (HHRG) on 2nd February 2022 it was not possible to form a committee and therefore the HHRG has not been able to continue.

The HHRG had originally been formed to organise events on behalf of residents, we would encourage individuals or groups of residents who would like to organise future events/activities for the community to apply directly to the CIC for funding.

To apply for funding please complete the application form and email this to Pinnacle. The process will be kept as simple as possible but if you need any help or advice regarding applications please contact Robyn at Pinnacle.

This website, the HHRG email and Notice Board Facebook page will all continue as they are so that they can be used to advertise events and activities. If you would like to receive email updates on what is happening at Hanham Hall please contact the HHRG email and ask to be added to the email group.

Huge thanks to all who have served on the committee or helped arrange events during the time of the HHRG. The events don’t need to stop, but the mechanism for organising these has now changed.

Community Bike Ride

woman cycling through avenue of trees

It seems to be a long time since our last community bike ride, but, taking our cue from Eunice, there will be an opportunity to blow away the cobwebs on Saturday, 26th February.

Declining numbers last year mean that this is likely to be our only organized bike ride this year.  Our affiliation to Cycling UK ends on 27th March, and a decision was taken at the January meeting of the Residents’ Group not to renew.

We’ll be cycling to The Little Coffee Shop at Saltford, a total distance of about 15 miles.  We meet in the Hanham Hall car park at 9.45 a.m. for a prompt 10 a.m. start.  The ride will finish at about 12.45 p.m.

Children and young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Although not compulsory, we recommend that all participants wear a helmet.  You may also want to bring a face covering and hand sanitizer.

Weather permitting, I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, 26th February

Happy cycling
Ian

Ye-Ha! Hoedown fantastic

We had a fantastic time at the Western Hoedown on 11th September and the weather looked kindly on us! There was an afternoon of entertainment from The Flaming Feathers giving us the Can Can, to Lucy Lost-It teaching circus skills to the children. Many of us enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with neighbours in the sunshine or try our skills in tin can alley. After a buffet from Ivy’s Cafe we danced the night away to the amazing For The Record.

An amazing day – thanks to all who made it happen.
